Solomon's pet fish - take 2
Early last week I was thinking how glad I was I took the suggestion on a Montessori list for toddlers and got Solomon a pet Betta fish.
He has been so enjoying having a fish! He pulled a chair over to the tank and talked to Nemo. He told him "good morning" and "bye."
Solomon would turn Nemo's light on in the morning and then when it is his naptime, he turned the light off and told him to have a good nap.
He even gave Nemo kisses!
He really enjoyed feeding Nemo and was so careful about it:
But then last Wednesday morning, at feeding time, we found Nemo dead. Oh no. I called our resident Betta fish expert Tabby in to look at the fish. "Fin rot," she proclaimed, seconds later. Ugh. I told Solomon that Nemo was dead.
He was extra solemn for a few hours and would periodically say "Nemo, dead?" Then he finally cried, poor guy.
Tabby and I super cleaned the aquarium and all the stuff inside it. Then she helped Solomon set it up again.
Saturday morning, after Tabby's Hapkido class, we went to the pet store. Solomon picked out another fish. This time I had him choose a female Betta. Smaller fins - maybe less trouble with something happening.
Oh he was so excited! He named the new fish Marlin. In my blurry pictures below (I'm still hoping to get enough money this year to buy a better camera) you can see the pride and joy on Solomon's face as watches Marlin:
Lord willing, Marlin will stay alive and healthy for quite awhile. (Bettas can live a couple years.)
Oh I hope this fish makes it! I know it is sad and disappointing it is to lose any animal. We need to get another fish also Jojo would love it:)
